Acne can affect ones appearance and exert an impact on their behavior and outlook. The psychological impact of acne can affect both adults and teenagers alike. Thankfully, there are many acne treatments available so that one does not have to spend their lifetime being conscious of their acne.

People with acne tend to be less confident. Their consciousness about their acne affects the way they perceive themselves. Their self esteem is takes a big blow and as a result, they tend to be less forthcoming with their ideas and opinions. They also tend to withdraw socially. They prefer to be alone than among friends and peers because they feel embarrassed about their acne. Such behavior can affect a teenager’s social life. In adults, it can have an impact not just on their social lives but also on their career.

Some people with acne are pre-occupied with their appearance. They tend to spend most of their time using acne products and make-up to cover their acne. Some go to the extent of over dressing or using too much make up in an attempt to deflect attention from acne while others go to the extent of adopting a don’t care attitude about their appearance.

Teenagers who suffer from acne sometimes display a rebellious and angry attitude. This is because of their frustration with acne and perhaps, the fact that nothing seems to help in their war against acne. Their frustration about their appearance takes a toll on their social life and peer-peer relationships. As a result they end up angry, irritated and rebellious.

In some cases, acne can result in depression and anxiety. Constant attempts at acne treatment with no considerable results can leave one depressed. Combine this with the social stigma of acne and feelings of worthlessness, low self esteem etc and you get a perfect recipe for depression. However, if you are in search of a true remedy you can try exposed acne treatment.

The psychological impact of acne is long lasting and deep rooted. If you suffer from acne and experience feelings of depression or social withdrawal, it is essential to get a good support system of friends and family. You can also seek help from a therapist to get through this phase.
